Joshua B. Moore, 37, of Shelton, was arrested on Tuesday for a series of burglaries in which the ATMs had been emptied of cash overnight dating back as far as August 2017, said Capt. Robert Berry of the Greenwich Police.
The trail to Moore began on Feb. 22, 2018, when police responded to the CVS on Post Road, for the report of an overnight burglary. Responding officers found that the ATM machine had been forced and opened and emptied of cash. The owner of the ATM confirmed that more than $32,000 had been stolen, Berry said.
Detective noticed that the characteristics of this incident were similar to two previous ATM burglaries. The first took place on Aug. 14, 2017, at the Shell Gas Station on Putnam Avenue where more than $46,000 was stolen and the second was at the same CVS location on Nov. 14, 2018, where more than $26,000 was taken, he said.
An extensive investigation by Greenwich detectives, which included a review of surveillance footage from numerous cameras, and working with other local, state, and federal officials, led to Moore, Berry added.
After obtaining search warrants for cell phone and financial records, investigators were able to establish probable cause for an arrest warrant for Moore.
He was arrested around 6 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29 and charged with three counts of burglary, three counts of larceny and three counts of criminal mischief. The investigation is continuing and additional charges may be pending.
Moore is being held on $250,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
